Who We Are We sincerely appreciate your desire learn about worshipping with a congregation of the churches of Christ. We know that the unfamiliar can be distracting and we do not want this to happen as we praise God and honor Jesus Christ. A Cappella Singing (Ephesians 5:19) Churches of Christ do not use instrumental music in our worship assembly. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the singing, as we want our spirits to commune with God through His Spirit. The Lord’s Supper (1 Corinthians 10: 16-17; Acts 20:7) We also remember Jesus' sacrifice each Sunday by celebrating the Lord's Supper among baptized believers. Plates are passed containing “unleavened bread” that represents the "body of Christ," which the Apostle Paul teaches corresponds to the church. Participants will break off a piece of bread and eat it while meditating upon their relationship with the church. Next, trays of individual cups of grape juice are distributed. The grape juice represents "the new covenant in Jesus' blood." Each participant drinks the juice in a cup and replaces it in the tray as the remember their relationship to Jesus. Prayer and Scripture Reading (Colossians 4:2; 1 Timothy 4:13) Through prayer and Bible reading, we talk to and listen to God. During worship, selected men will lead us in these activities. Most worshipers simply bow their heads during prayers. We encourage following the Bible readings in your own Bible or one provided in the pews. Weekly Contribution (1 Corinthians 16:1-2) Plates are passed each Sunday to collect the weekly tithe of our members. These funds support the many ministries here at our church. We do not expect our guests to contribute, however if you choose to contribute, we gratefully accept the gift. Sermon (2 Timothy 4:2) We have a message that helps to focus on becoming spiritually stronger. Most Sundays our preacher, David Baker, delivers the sermon. At the conclusion of the sermon, we sing a song to allow for each of us to think about our relationship with God. People are invited to respond by coming to the front of the auditorium for immersion for the forgiveness of their sins, prayer, or to indicate a desire to become a member of our church family. If you wish further explanation about our worship or any aspect of Christian life, please ask our preacher or anyone in the leadership. We will be happy to answer any question you may have. |
